Tim Mahoney

City Pages | #ShineThrough

Great article in City Pages about the release of #ShineThrough this Friday at the Fine Line in Minneapolis with Brian from GB Leighton and The War Poets. Here is the link: http://bit.ly/WmO07k

This is why I sing.

I am not sure how to respond to this.its bigger than me. I will say Susan is going to get a big surprise from me:) Hi Tim! I have a request....like you don't get enough of those huh?! I was wondering if there is any way possible that I could purchase your new CD now instead of waiting until January? Here is why I am requesting this (and I am not seeking sympathy, just giving a reason for the request): I am sick/dying and am in hospice care. There is a very good possibility that I will not be around when the CD is released. The disease I have, Chronic Pseudo Obstruction Intestinal Dysmotility, is basically slowly starving me to death. And, from the PICC lines and ports that I have had for nutrition and liquids, I have many large blood clots. So between the blood clots, the malnutrtion/dehydration which are shutting down my organs, the possibility of a stroke and/or a heart attack, we don't what will cause my death or when it will happen... However, I am getting worse and worse every day and am now in bed pretty much all the time and they are just trying to keep me comfortable. To listen to your new CD would cheer me up! :) I am a big fan (like you don't hear that all the time lol). I had lived in NM and AZ for about 6 years and you (via your music) were my connection to home, MN. As soon as I moved back to MN, the first thing I said I had to do was to go to a Tim Mahoney concert! I love your music. And the song that you recently put up on your Page - Wow!!! Love it. And that is how I live/speak/act - from the heart!!! So, if there is a way to purchase your CD now, I would be thrilled !!! Please let me know where to send the money if this is possible! If, not , well I would never know unless I had asked .... Thank you so much for taking the time to read this!

TIM MAHONEY TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM

For Immediate Release November 28, 2012
TIM MAHONEY TO RELEASE FIRST NEW STUDIO ALBUM IN FIVE YEARS JANUARY 22

Twin Cities Favorite from The Voice Season 1 Delivers Long-Awaited New Music Minneapolis, MN—Five years can be an eternity in the music business, especially when an artist has been served a slice of overnight success. Minneapolis’ Tim Mahoney enjoyed a taste of that when he was coached by Adam Levine on Season 1 of NBC’s hit reality show, The Voice in 2011, but was eliminated in the “battle round.” Mahoney hasn’t exactly been sleeping on the job, but on January 22 he will release his first new album of studio material in five years, Shine Through.

Following the street date, Mahoney will have a release party on January 25 at Fine Line Music Hall along with fellow local celebrity and friend GB Leighton, who performed on one of the songs on Shine Through with Mahoney. The album was recorded live to tape over three days rather than layer it with studio bells and whistles. “I've done that before,” said Mahoney. “For this one, I just end wanted to sound like guys playing in a band.”

While some of the tracks are heartfelt and have lyrical depth such as “Shadow,” inspired by a breakup, and “It’s Over,” about the movie theater shootings in Colorado; others are more light-hearted and fun (“Heart Attack” and “Put a Line There”). And the first single, “Shine Through,” was written for a couple Mahoney knows. “I didn’t plan on releasing it,” he said. “But I thought it just had a great simple hook and story.”

In addition to recording the new album and touring regionally, Mahoney had a run of guest radio appearances on 96.3 K-Twin on Tuesday mornings following weekly Voice episodes. He released his most recent single, “Hey Adam Levine,” about his experience on the show in late 2011. Mahoney is also a big supporter of local charities and causes including recently paralyzed local hockey player Jack Jablonski, Give to the Max Day, cancer research and more. In addition, Mahoney’s “Theme Song,” as well as a few other tracks, was played at Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins, between innings. Also Mahoney, as big an Elvis Presley fan as you’ll ever meet, opened for one of his idols and the daughter of Elvis, Lisa Marie Presley.

But while it has been a whirlwind couple of years for Mahoney, like his fellow Voice alum he is hoping to ride his wave of national exposure. “Everyone from The Voice is in same boat,” said Mahoney. “We all have to make music post the show and hopefully it connects with same audience. If not, that's okay too. I just want to be happy with the album, which I am.”

A career as a working musician and songwriter is one of those gigs that people look at and think, “How awesome would that be?” Well, Minneapolis based Tim Mahoney has been doing it his way for over fifteen years now. What began as a side career with huge aspirations while Mahoney was waiting tables has now blossomed into a full-fledged career. And make no mistake, the way that Mahoney hustles, it IS a job, but one he is very happy to have. To date, he’s sold over 100,000 units of his various releases between a solo career and his part as a member of The Blue Meenies. And he also has the raw talent to win multiple awards year after year. In fact, Mahoney was featured in Rolling Stone Magazine in 2007 for their 40th anniversary issue when he won a Ray-Ban promotion. He’s also won or placed high in songwriting contests about fifteen times over the past decade. In 2011, Mahoney appeared in a commercial for Platos Closet, an upscale used clothing store, and the spot, which features Mahoney’s song, “Piece of You,” ran in 40 markets nationwide. Then, of course, was his appearance on NBC's new hit reality show The Voice. Mahoney was chosen by Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine as one of his 8 team members after hearing Mahoney's stunning rendition of Sam Cooke's "Bring it On Home to Me." And while Mahoney was eliminated from the competition on the episode that aired in May 2011, the iTunes single of his duet with Casey Weston of "Leather and Lace" reached at high as #32 on the iTunes singles chart.
